ELA - Reading/Writing/Grammar

Grammar -

Word Wall - We are all done!

Details:

Each student is being asked to bring in 5 words (prefer adjectives not nouns).  Each student will only have to pick one of them to write the definition(s), part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and word forms of the words down on a graphic organizer.  The class will then put all of these words into a classroom dictionary and then each individual student will pick 5 of these words to use to write their own creative story (the student does not have to use the one word he/she brought in).  The writing process and steps are listed below.   I will also add a rubric below on this week for your review and how this will be graded.  This is a writing assignment and each student will learn and use the writing process to complete is it. I will be explaining the entire project and they will be taught the writing process: brainstorming, rough draft (sloppy copy), revise (remove or add thoughts), edit (grammar errors) - peer edit, and final copy (good copy). Each student will pick one word to add to the classroom dictionary (each student will find the definition(s), part of speech, word forms, etc.).  Then each student will pick five of these words to create their own story.  An outline will be given to each student to formulate their ideas and will use the writing process above to create their own story.  The word wall stories will be completed in school and will take about a month to complete. We will take about two periods a week to work on this project.  Each student will present their final published work.  Depending on time of each trimester the students might type their stories in the computer and the typing will be part of their computer grades.

Vocabulary Workshop -  Final - Study guide  The material will not only focus on the spelling of a word, but how to use the words in sentences.  It will cover the part of speech, multiple meanings, and antonyms/synonyms.
